The Executive Chairman of Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area, Hon. Ambrose Chinedum Nwachukwu,(Chiaka Onye Onye), has successfully resolved a longstanding dispute between;
Mining investors, Sand dredgers, Tipper Drivers, host Communities and residents of the areas where mining activities take place.
The meeting to resolve the dispute took place at the LGA Council Headquarters.
The meeting engaged in dialogue and negotiation, bringing together representatives of both parties including the Legislative Assembly, Secretary to the Council and Traditional Rulers to address concerns and find solutions that benefitted all concerned.
The conflict resolution found ways to mitigate the impact of mining activities in the host communities while ensuring that the interests of investors are protected.
This achievement demonstrates Hon. Nwachukwu’s leadership ability and commitment to engender peace in Ezinihitte LGA.
The meeting which was organized on May 4, was aimed at
fostering cooperation; bringing together sand dredgers, associates, and host communities who signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for peaceful coexistence.
Regulate mining activities; Ensure that mining operations are conducted in a way that maintains security and minimizes disruptions to local communities.
The MoU is also to promote harmonious relationships, encourage mutual understanding and respect between the stakeholders.
The attendance of traditional rulers, representatives of dredgers and tippers associations, and Council officials underscores the importance of the initiative for the communities’ well-being.
Hon. Nwachukwu, emphasized the importance of proper orientation, educating stakeholders on the best practices and regulations.
He stated that regulations and guiding principles, establishing clear guidelines for businesses, including mining companies and tipper drivers would attract a lasting peace.
The traditional rulers, led by Eze Ben Adindu, expressed gratitude to the Executive Chairman for organizing the meeting, highlighting the significance of:
Peaceful coexistence, fostering harmony between stakeholders.
Collaborative progress, ensuring all parties benefit from the agreements reached.
The initiative also demonstrates the Chairman’s commitment to sustainable development and community harmony in Ezinihitte LGA.
The resolutions outlined key agreements for a peaceful business environment and mutual benefits for host communities and dredging companies including the operational guidelines such as:No nighttime dredging activities.
– No price regulation for products. dredging companies must register with the LGA.
– Autonomous communities to appoint dredging committee members.
– Mining investors to sign a Community Development Agreement (CDA) with host communities.
– CDAs to include royalties for traditional rulers.
– Safety and logistics;
– Proper covering of mined products during transportation.
– Tipper drivers to obtain annual permits.
The Ezinihitte Boss said the agreement was aimed at promoting cooperation, safety and fairness among stakeholders.
Hon. Nwachukwu gave assurance of enabling business environment to support for business operations and growth. And also adequate security,
protection for mining activities and stakeholders to foster a stable and conducive atmosphere for businesses to thrive in Ezinihitte LGA.
